After spending my entire life thinking that I couldn’t be active because of my asthma, something clicked and on July 4, 2013 I started running. I trained the rest of the summer and ran my first 5k on September 7, 2013.
After the 5k, I knew I wanted to keep running. I didn’t have a plan through the fall and winter (and a polar vortex hit) so I didn’t keep it up as much as I would have liked. Once spring arrived, I got back on the road and was ready for a new goal. I am currently training for my first half marathon, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in Philadelphia, that I will run with my younger sister. I am following Hal Higdon’s Novice 1 Half Marathon Training Plan. I had 13 weeks before the half marathon when I started the plan but it is only 12 weeks long so I am going to repeat one of the last weeks.
I like to run around my neighborhood because it is a decent sized loop, perfect for the runs that are a few miles long. For the longer runs I’m going to be branching out and exploring new routes around my town. My town is full of hills which I hope pays off when I run flatter races!
And when I’m not running… I graduated from college with a degree in chemical engineering and I am hoping to eventually go to medical school.
